Bin Cleaning Subscriptions: Monthly vs. Seasonal
Monthly service suits a hard-working green cart or garage-stored carts from June through September; a seasonal package — typically a spring clean and a fall clean, sometimes with one or two summer visits — suits everyone else. Neither is wrong, and the honest answer is that plenty of households are well served by the cheaper option. Here is how to pick.
What each option actually is
Monthly subscription: your carts are cleaned every month on a set collection day, usually May through October, at roughly $20–30 per cart per visit. The cart never gets a chance to foul badly, so every clean is quick and every week smells fine.
Seasonal package: a defined set of cleans — most commonly the spring reset after thaw and the fall clean before freeze-up, around $80–120 per cart for the pair or a small bundle. You accept that the cart will drift between visits in exchange for a lower annual spend.
Choose monthly if…
- Your green organics cart gets real use — food-heavy carts re-foul in two to three weeks of summer heat
- Carts live in an attached garage, where any odour is immediately your household's odour
- You have had a maggot incident and never want another
- You would rather pay a predictable small amount than think about bins at all
Choose seasonal if…
- Your carts stay outside and downwind
- You bag diligently and your organics volume is light
- Your household is small, or away much of the summer
- The spring and fall cleans are the ones you actually care about — they do carry most of the value for a lightly used cart
The math, plainly
A May–October monthly plan runs roughly $120–180 per cart per year; a spring/fall seasonal pair runs $60–80. The monthly premium buys the summer months — which, for a busy organics cart, is precisely when the problems occur, and for a light one, is money spent on cleans it barely needed. Match the plan to the cart, not to the bigger number.
Switching and stacking
Operators are generally flexible: start seasonal, upgrade to monthly after one bad July, or run monthly on the green cart and seasonal on the black. Multi-cart same-visit discounts apply either way, and bundling with pressure washing can improve the deal further — see the cost guide. Tell the intake assistant which pattern you want when you request service, and the operator confirms the schedule from there.
